Amnon Lipkin, who lives in Tel Aviv, Israel, describes himself as an artist and craftsman. With his somewhat outdated ‘Singer’ sewing machine, he brings a smile to many people’s faces. In the beginning, he created simple plush objects that he called ‘pashut’, which means ‘simple’ in Hebrew. These were plush cars, buses and everyday objects such as teapots and cameras. Amnon later developed new techniques and embroidered sketches and drawings on canvas using a sewing machine. Amnon sees his sketches as a modern extension of traditional embroidery. The sewing machine serves as his ‘pen’ and the fabric of the canvas is the ‘paper’ of his unique drawings, whereby he often embroiders the entire ‘painting’ with one and the same thread. In this way, he creates comic-like impressions of people, buildings or city silhouettes at breakneck speed. For the Kristallhütte, for example, Amnon Lipkin has created his own series on the theme of the Alps and winter sports. Click here for the video from Kristallhuette.
